Wesley Covenant Prayer

“I am no longer my own, but thine.

Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.

Put me to doing, put me to suffering.

Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee,

exalted for thee or brought low for thee.

Let me be full, let me be empty.

Let me have all things, let me have nothing.

I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.

And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

thou art mine, and I am thine.

So be it.

And the covenant which I have made on earth,

let it be ratified in heaven.”

Amen.

John Wesley’s Covenant Prayer

I wonder how this upcoming year will unfold. For each of us. I know it will bring moments of ease and moments of challenge. Times when we are full and times when we are emptied.

When I read this prayer and am reminded that “He is mine and I am His”, then I know that I can do all things when He is leading. No circumstance will be too much when He is at my side.

There is a bigger story going on. Beyond the gaze of my eyes and the boundary of my yard.  Yet, here is where I live my life. May I live well the story of my life and the ways it intersects with the Kingdom of God.

So be it.

A covenant is so often not focused on in our present day. And yet… so necessary.

    Thank you.

  6. Put me and put me and let me and let me… what a prayer.

This: “I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.” May we all move steadily to that state in which this sentence is true in our lives!
