Standing Firm in Freedom

Free

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

Galatians 5:1

Last year my word for the year was Stand. This year it is Uncover.

When I read this verse it seems to be a transition verse for me. Maybe more of a connecting verse, from year to year.

Standing firm in freedom.

I wonder what that means? How it plays out? What does it look like in the daily, doing laundry kind of life?

This is also the verse Rob and I choose to be our verse for the year. For several years we have a very scientific approach to choosing a verse. It involves someone watching children and sitting at a coffee shop. Add in a journal and prayer and the two of us discussing what God has been teaching us. Somehow from all of that, a verse or passage emerges.

So we venture into the year wondering and praying about this freedom of which Paul writes. The freedom for which Christ has set us free. Noticing ways we are being called to stand firm. Paying attention to the idols and choices and pasts that we are tempted to let enslave us.

Uncovering as we go. Taking away layers of fear or lies or assumptions. Seeking more of who we are, of who we are created to be.

Standing firm in that place. In that place of unburden-ness. In that place of freedom that only Christ can ring in.

What do you want to uncover this year?
