One Word as a Beacon

BeaconI am sharing over at OneWord 365 today. You can head right over there to read…..or you can read this introductory post first and then go!

Our words, they have power.

“You are beautiful.”

“I am sorry, will you forgive me.”

“The cancer has spread.”

We have all heard them. Words that smile. Words that bring cleansing. Words that bring dreaded news.

I’ve always been aware of the ways strings of letters convey so much that stirs deep in our soul. When I first heard of One Word, I was enthralled. Choosing one word to focus on for the year. One word to surround with intentionality.

Last year my word was Stand:

“You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.” 2 Chronicles 20:17

While I’ve read this verse several times in the past, something different jumped out last year. God has told them “you will not have to fight”. But then proceeds to say “take up your positions.”

Isn’t it interesting He told them to get ready, to get in place, after he had just said they won’t have to fight?

I suppose He could have said “go on home, I’ve got this one covered.” He did have it covered, but yet they still have a part to play. To stand firm.

Not to sit– complacent while the battle is fought. Not to run– to storm ahead and win the battle on their own strength.

Take up your positions and stand firm.

I love what the word uncovered last year. And I love that I have the opportunity to share over at One Word’s blog today. Sharing on what a word can mean, how it is a beacon to our life.

Please join us over here, it would be great to hear your responses.
