Beauty of the Body of Christ {Day 28}

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

How beautiful the hands that served
The wine and the bread and the sons of the earth
How beautiful the feet that walked
The long dusty roads and the hill to the cross

How beautiful, how beautiful
How beautiful is the body of Christ

How beautiful the heart that bled
That took all my sin and bore it instead
How beautiful the tender eyes
That chose to forgive and never despise

How beautiful, how beautiful
How beautiful is the body of Christ

And as He laid down His life
We offer this sacrifice
That we will live just as he died
Willing to pay the price

How beautiful the radiant bride
Who waits for her groom with His light in her eyes
How beautiful when humble hearts give
The fruit of pure lives so that others may live

How beautiful, how beautiful
How beautiful is the body of Christ

How beautiful the feet that bring
The sound of good news and the love of the King
How beautiful the hands that serve
The wine and the bread and the sons of the earth

How beautiful, how beautiful
How beautiful is the body of Christ

Twila Paris

We sang this song at our wedding. At the time, it was a popular wedding song. Maybe you can guess what year we got married by that information.

When I hear the phrase ‘the body of Christ’, I most often think of us. Collectively those who are followers of Christ. We are the body. But when I read the song lyrics, the impact of Jesus as the the original body of Christ, strikes me.

His life showing us how to serve and love. Sacrifice and bear fruit.

His life submitted to suffering to conquer death.

He responded to evil with goodness and holiness….and the result is beauty.

When we, the body of Christ, respond to evil with goodness and holiness….the result is beauty.

How beautiful is the body of Christ. His. Ours. One with Him.

Which lyrics stand out most to you today?  Spend some time reflecting on them.

  1. That is a lovely song for sure! Thank you for the reminder that He desires for us to respond as He would and from that He can make all things beautiful. Hmm? Now “In His Time” is in my head so I guess I will go with those lyrics today!
    In His time
    In His time
He makes all things beautiful in His time
Lord please show me every day
As Your teaching me your way
That You make all things beautiful
    In Your time

  2. The first line got me. How beautiful the hands. I am struck by the body of Christ when they don’t just send words or money but get down into the mire with you. When they bring their hands and body to the issue.

  3. a beautiful song and a beautiful reminder. 🙂

I love this song. Perhaps that shows you how old I am! I like In His Time that donna mentioned, too.

Now that I’ve read your post, I cant the the Twila Paris song out of my head (not that that’s a bad thing), so I can’t think of any other lyrics!

Thanks for the earworm this morning. It’s a good one!

  5. I love this song, as well. When I was younger, we had a Easter play that portrayed the life of Christ and there was a scene of the Last supper, and they sang this song. It brings tears to my eyes now as I picture it. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful post!

  6. Melanie, is too! Twill Paris wrote some mighty beautiful words!
